Irresistible aromas of camp grills and hardwood trees fill the air at French Creek State Park as the hot days leading up to the Fourth of July boil upon us. Sunburn this late in the season is a first (for me), but there was no better day than the last in June to begin a holiday or end a season, month or in all reality, a hot work week . . . so my friend and I spent the day swimming at the 7,500+ acre park in southeastern PA.
Nestled by extensive forests of oak and maple trees, the view of Hopewell Lake offers the inevitable outdoor pastimes - hiking, fishing, cooking out, kayaking, paddle boating, people watching (lifeguards?!) and more. Stay for the day or camp out all weekend among the endless acres of water and trees. Today was a beautiful day to debut your American flag swimsuit - - or red suntan.
