Extraordinary Measures

skrapbook:

“You and I are exactly what extraordinary looks like”-Maya Angelou

This month I have been privileged to engage in and observe several enriching events a part of this month’s tribute to Black History. After watching the BET Honors Awards and getting deeper into the study of the Civil Rights Movement, I find myself to becoming more attached to the everyday people who lent themselves and went through extraordinary measures to create the free country we live in today. I became extremely emotional when I saw the Tuskegee Airmen, Maya Angelou, and Spike Lee and several others being honored that night. They are truly what extraordinary looks like, and so are we.

This past Saturday, I went on an African American Mural Arts Tour with my school Philadelphia University. I have to say that this tour was such an enlightening and wonderful experience. To see the many faces of African Americans who helped shift our position in society. I was not only in awe of the people represented in the murals, but at the detail and craftsmanship of the artist who created these wonderful masterpieces.

Today, I wanted to share some of these murals with you. Enjoy:

Malcom X

Culmination of various prominent black women music artists.

Elder of a Philadelphia neighborhood, and her grandchildren.

My favorite- a mural dedication to the Tuskegee Airmen.

Until next time,

Peace and Blessings

((Tuskegee Airman mural is like…my all time favorite one here in the city. That and Legacy. klfsaslk Need to get pics of that soon.))
