Congress Hall, Philadelphia PA

This is the Senate Chamber, swanky isn’t it? The drapes in this room made it so hard to get good pictures. So you can’t sit in the desks here, because these aren’t replicas like how the Representatives meeting room has. Thirty-two desks are in this room, and like 28 of them are real…something along those numbers.

The carpet that was on the floor, it’s of the original 13 states seals all circling around the seal of the United States of America. The carpet is a reproduction of the original.

So these pictures are old, but remember when I went on my old city adventure and the tour of Independence Hall? Well I went on a tour of Congress Hall as well. But I never got around to posting those pictures.

So basically this is what Congress Hall’s function was in our Nation’s early history. It served as the seat of the U.S. Congress from 1790 to 1800. During the time that Congress Hall served as the nation’s capital, the country admitted three states (Vermont, Tennessee, and Kentucky), ratified the Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution, and oversaw two Presidential Inaugurations (Washington’s second and John Adams).

The two pictures here is where the House of Representatives met. It’s full of desks, like these, that make a half circle around the large room. You can sit in the desks and everything, makes you feel like your one of the representatives XD The room accommodated 106 representatives from 16 states.

NOTE: The first picture of the Building’s exterior does not belong to me. I just realized that I didn’t take a picture of the outside of the building. NOW, we move to the second floor 8D

So here’s the Second Floor, which wasn’t that extravagant, just a hall and rooms on each side. This floor is where the Senate met, well these are the meeting rooms, and the secretaries and stuff stayed here. The Senate met in a room at the end of the hall, which I will post pictures of that in the next photoset.

Portraits of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, presented as gifts from the French monarch following the American Revolution, hang in adjoining committee rooms, the rooms I was talking about. What was cool was that they had maps of the US hanging in the committe rooms, and they are old maps from back then. I have a picture of the room with Louis’ portrait but it didn’t come out as well as the one with Marie Antoinette.
